Installation detail

In preparation for the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver, the Canadian Mint began marketing “lucky loonies”, releasing special Olympic loonies in 2004,06,08 and 2010. While lucky coins are not new (…silver six pence in her shoe), the intentional marketing of a “lucky coin” is. Available in rolls of 25, the project questions the uniqueness and sincerity of a personal luck charm when sold in such a quantity and therefore attempts to find the true luck charm within. This project uses a roll of uncirculated lucky loonies, and through a process of coin tosses in which tails is deemed lucky, eliminates the unlucky, (or less lucky) coins until only one remains.
